I started working at Ecd in the summer of 2016. The pay was 9.50. Before you judge know I was happy considering I am a convicted felon and finding work was hard. I can recall how many doors were slammed in my face without the least inspection of who I was as a person. It was hot that first day and I had the wonderful job of unloading a truck with about 2,000 boxes.
After about an hour I was thirsty and I asked where the water fountain was at. I was told to cup my hands under the water spicket. I was appalled but thirsty, so I did so. About thirty minutes later my stomach began to cramp up. I never had this problem with tap water but I knew I couldn't drink this everyday so from that day on out I brought my own supply of bottled spring water.
Time after time I have went to the Vice president complaining about the work conditions. He simply told me to stuff it and look for another job. A year later he was sent packing up the road. Instead of becoming bitter I maintained a positive outlook, only by the grace of God. I could probably write a book about the trials I had to persevere. Is it petty to tell you we were not given water, work gloves and safety glasses.
Would I be wrong to tell you there were no preventive safety measures and people drive their forklift like they were on a rodeo. Or the thick layers of dirt throughout the warehouse. How about the bathrooms that smelled like a project alleyway. This was my life for three years. If you are desperate for work this is the place to go. They don't do background checks.
But definitely not a place to sit your bag down and get comfortable. It is beyond me to understand how they have employees that have been there for over 10 years. I think it's like the story of the children of Egypt. They wanted to go back to Egypt because they lost hope that things could get better. They became complacent and could not even imagine a better living condition. Out of all the people only two entered the promised land. Two men who never gave up hope.
